After much research, failed attempts for change of status quo, and self-reflection; I have decided to refrain from knowingly promoting river surfing due to river surfing’s unwittingly and knowingly negligent use of unsafe gear (in particular the use of quick release leashes and improperly designed personal floatation devices for river surfing). Quick Release Leashes Are

Chatfield decreased to 80cfs at 11:30am Saturday, August 19, 2023. Sixx was surfed Friday at low flow but the Chatty drop to 80cfs will essentially take the surf out of Sixx, Chiclets, and Beavers and 16th to a point. Though the desperate surfers might hit Beavers anyway (it was surfed early Saturday) or Dave’s Wave

First pause of the Denver 20213 river surfing season will happen today by about 2pm when the flow subsides at RRP. Possibly Sixx will surfable after the drop with some ambient flow in the river but that puts things on the edge of surfable for Sixx at 130cfs-ish. Really doubt the waveshaper volunteers will venture

Surf is up Monday morning as we move into a relatively hot and dry week. Getting harder to forecast the flow/surf and things still depends on inflow into a full Chatfield that then is (for the most part) matched as a release out of Chatfield. So, we are on eggshells this week and might see

Surf session was going off yesterday at Sixx. Many were getting incredible rides! Get your surf on early today before any possible flow changes. Waves are looking real good Sunday morning. Sixx is in the excellent range. Benni’s got shaped yesterday and was looking good! Chiclets continues with a green left side to surf. No

Still respectable flow but will likely need some waveshaping at RRP…. Exact time of change is was not stated but likely 10:30am.

On June 30th, 2019 while SUP surfing the “Staircase Wave” in Buena Vista fully kitted out with a pfd/helmet/quick-release-leash/high volume board/paddle, 39 year old Michael Robert James flush drown in the rapids below the wave. Beyond local news reports and very hushed discussions throughout the river surfing community; absolutely nothing has been learned from this

Appears the drop happened about 9:45am but will not have much impact on RRP surf… So if you got a surfboard then, SMOKE ‘EM IF YA GOT ‘EM…

Friday will start out similar to yesterday with excellent surf in the morning. Yesterday, Sixx was shaped by Ocky in his street clothes during his lunch break to keep us surfing the rest of the day on Thursday as the flow increased (mega props goes out to Ocky for the the help). Sixx was re-shaped

Chatty upward at 9am. Sixx is surfing nice. Might need a tun by noonish. Ellie surfing Sixx this AM!

Look for good morning surf at Sixx and Benni’s Thursday morning. Dawn patrol will likely be your best bet for Sixx. Check the RRP (Union) gauge and if it is at 400cfs-ish just get in the car and go surf daybreak. If you happen to sleep in a bit, look at the Sixx pole cam

There are currently five (5) active RRP “WaveShaper Volunteers“, all who have day jobs. These volunteers have done wonders to keep an eye on the WaveShapers at Sixx and Benihana’s to keep us surfing over the seasons, especially this epic surf season of 2023. They often skip time away from their home-life and work-life responsibilities
