After much research, failed attempts for change of status quo, and self-reflection; I have decided to refrain from knowingly promoting river surfing due to river surfing’s unwittingly and knowingly negligent use of unsafe gear (in particular the use of quick release leashes and improperly designed personal floatation devices for river surfing). Quick Release Leashes Are

Chatfield decreased to 80cfs at 11:30am Saturday, August 19, 2023. Sixx was surfed Friday at low flow but the Chatty drop to 80cfs will essentially take the surf out of Sixx, Chiclets, and Beavers and 16th to a point. Though the desperate surfers might hit Beavers anyway (it was surfed early Saturday) or Dave’s Wave

Hang tight. Pray for monsoon rains early next week. LBK

Dry Sat/Sun with afternoon rain possible. One forecast shows heavier monsoons next week while other forecasts call for dry weather. Chatfield Reservoir is basically full and it seems almost a third of the normal water calls have not been made yet. Cross our fingers for something surfable at RRP soon! Will send out the Chatfield

JOB is rumored to have just showed up at Scout… If you are there in Salida right now, tell him, “one minute max rides or he gets dropped in on“.. hahahaha Will do a weekend forecast later but keep an eye for evening thunderstorms around metro Denver and maybe, just maybe, a gutter bump surf.

So frustrating… S Platte River needs a VFMP (Voluntary Flow Management Program) like the Upper Arkansas River has for BV/Salida. Read about their VFMP: https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/ArkansasHeadwatersRecreationArea/Documents/Admin/Publications/VFMPInformationalBrochure.pdf Speaking of Salida and the Scout Wave… Get it folks before the water turns down more than likely on August 16th, the day after the Upper Ark VFMP ends for

Not many water calls right now. Keep an eye on late day storms. Noticed that Brent Schantz is no longer the DWR River Operations & Compact Coordinator for Division 1. Wish him well and thank him for all the service to the S. Platte River and beyond he had provided. LBK

Crappy hit below the helmet today at Scout. LBK

Come on we have been sitting on basically 60cfs for 5 days straight 24 hrs a day…. Somebody close the gate more for like night hours and open it wider for daylight surf hours…. In the Upper Arkansas River that the Scout Wave is on, they call it the VFMP (Voluntary Flow Management Program) that

While surfing the Scout Wave in Salida, I got a moment to thank Mike Harvey for the Scout Wave, speak with him about the future changes/repairs to the Scout Wave, and ask about his interview with Colorado Sun outdoor reporter (formerly w/ the Denver Post), Jason Blevins. Mike said that he was hesitant to be

Changed the layout of the report a bit…. Not much on the horizon this week for local surf in metro-Denver. Still looking like dry hot 5 days ahead. Chatfield Reservoir is full but the calls for water by agriculture and municipalities seem to be scant…. Not saying the RRP river surfing season is over just

Read the surf forecast for today as well. Especially if you are traveling to surf the Scout Wave. LBK
