The main reservoir release gate will be increased from 80 to 100 cfs and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Friday, August 9, 2024.
RRP: 100cfs+/- Might see a tad bit more flow in the river on top of the dam release but afternoon/evening rains don’t seem to be lingering long enough near us to result in much surf.
There are a couple more days of rain on tap so keep that in the back of your mind to now and then check the cam and gauge just in case some gutter bump surf shows up.
Chiclets might have a small wave later this afternoon to surf but will need a board with more volume.
Pueblo: 780cfs+/- (predicted). The Pueblo Reservoir/Dam released another 50cfs earlier today, guessing with native flow in the river, will see about 780cfs at P-town’s new wave.
Flow possibly will hold today thru Sunday, though you might want to get an early jump on the weekend and surf P-town’s new wave, as next week the construction work begins at the side(s) of the new wave. The workers have requested we not surf the wave next week until they are finished with that side work.
Scout: 750cfs+/- Looking like this is the last weekend of good flow at Scout Wave. AHRA water flow announcement page hasn’t opined on the end of VFMP that normally happens Aug 15; but at the same time, there isn’t any USBR indication of needs to keep the higher flow going like last year’s extended season.
River Surfing Tip: Standing wave pools are an option that will blow your mind. A few of the local Denver surf crew have ventured out lately to surf the City Waves in Dallas and Washington state. Alex and Brittany scored cheap plane tickets and are headed back to Goodsurf (City wave) in Dallas next week. We are jealous!!!
Check the Goodsurf page for their Dallas standing wave pool- https://www.goodsurf.co
If you do hit one of these standing wave pools, start out your first session(s) on lower intermediate setting to get the feel of a fast wave in a pool. Once you got that wired, try the dialed up faster/taller wave if you are feeling brave. I suggest a helmet as well, so bring yours as a backup and just rent their boards.
Ironically the Dallas area has two City Waves and Denver keeps missing out on getting a standing wave pool… Come on City Wave or EpicSurf, why don’t you dance with us?… We’re no Limburger…
Surf Muzak: Now and then I will be adding in a bit of surf music and off beat derivatives such as new wave music, etc to the surf report.
Today I was thinking about the B-52’s for some reason when writing up the bit about standing wave pools and Denver not getting to dance with one…. “Dance this mess around”, B-52’s…. https://youtu.be/4WSenc2Z5OA?si=_ntkg8cVAYocr54q
Dance this mess around and go surf!
