Policies and Standards

These policies are meant to guide The Denver Surf Report as we blog about river surfing with related news and information. The following is a “living document” that as needed will be continually modified and updated based on feedback from our from our readers, subscribers, and from our own perceptions.

DISCLAIMER: The Denver Surf Report is focused primarily on river surfing. RIVER SURFING IS DANGEROUS AND CAN BE DEADLY- educate yourself before trying to river surf... don’t just blindly copy other river surfers… figure out how to safely river surf each individual spot (including different flows)….. and be critical in your decisions of what gear to use and not to use…… WHEN IN DOUBT, DON’T GO OUT!… We therefore notify and disclaim any liability for or caused by information provided on this blog page, The Denver Surf Report. Simply, you are responsible for your own actions and inactions while river surfing.

AUTHORS (“Bloggers”): The Denver Surf Report is a personal blog created to primarily share local river surfing information in the metro-Denver Colorado area. All blog posts and stories are opinions of the author unless written by guest authors or directly attributed to other sources.

COMMENTARIES: At times The Denver Surf Report will open blog posts and stories for published comments. Those making comments do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the authors of The Denver Surf Report. Decisions to allow or remove comments are up to the authors of The Denver Surf Report. Any inappropriate comments, trolling, hateful, and off topic comments will be rejected and/or deleted. In particular comments posted from trouble making “kookals”, trolls, gaslighters, or similar will NOT be published or removed.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: The Denver Surf Report strives to avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance of conflict of interest wherever and whenever possible. For example:

  • We do not accept gifts/trips from blog news sources unless fully disclosed for example product testing and review.
  • We will not quid pro quo our blog post for any reason.
  • We are not social media influencers and do not endorse products or services for payment.
  • We are not funded by any outside sources, advertisers, grants, etc.

FAIRNESS: The Denver Surf Report is committed to fairness to all no matter what walk of life you come from; however, this is a river surfing blog and is focused on river surfing for the most part.

  • We push for transparency on anything to do with and for river surfing. We do not hold back information to gain any unfair advantage when the river waves are surfable. Matter of fact we exist for transparency of river surfing so the general public can share the river waves we surf.
  • Localism sucks. Sure there is a thing called surf etiquette but that is not “localism”. River surfing localism does exist and is stupid, mean spirited, and can be dangerous. Not sharing details about when a public river wave is up is a prime example of localism. Disinformation about a river wave is obvious localism. Negative vibe at any river wave is also localism. Not sharing how to surf a particular river wave when visitors or newbies show up at a wave is blatant localism and DANGEROUS. The Denver Surf Report will call out perceived and actual river surfing localism!

NEWS & OPINION: It is often difficult in a blog to separate news (based on facts) from opinion (that may or may not be based on facts and could be just preferences of The Denver Surf Report). We will strive to cite news if at all possible and let the readers of the blog figure out when opinion drives a particular post. To help out the readers of The Denver Surf Report to disseminate between blog posts that are news or news based from opinions of the authors or others, the following may assist.

  • Review: A critical assessment of a service, product, performance, artistic work or literary work. For example, a review of surfboards for river surfing, or review of a surf movie.

The Denver Surf Report will support and advocate for river surfing that is impacted by laws, regulations, environmental policy, taxpayer rights, surfer rights, public rights, etc. River surfing advocating by The Denver Surf Report does not equate to endorsement of one political party or candidate over another; however The Denver Surf Report will make comment for river surfing on laws, regulations, interpretations by government officials, and even to elected or non-elected officials. To quote the late great Congressman John Lewis, “Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
