As of 2pm there was no update to the Chatfield Dam release from the water managers and we will assume it remains 60cfs out of the dam.

RRP: 70cfs+/- RRP doesn’t really have much. Though some will surf Chiclets with a huge inflatable down to like 80ish cfs and Lane bodyboarded Sixx this AM.
Monsoons are not looking all that promising besides some brief rains. Farmers are still calling for water. Not sure if we will see an increase in flow out of the dam anytime soon this week.
Pueblo: 416cfs+/- P-town’s new wave is surfable though very small and soft. Not worth a long drive, but if you live closer to Pueblo it might be worth a surf if you are jonesing for it.
Watch for the shallow concrete kicker lip in front of the wave. One surfer yesterday got a bad hipper by hitting the concrete kicker lip when falling on the wave and had to immediately call it a day. A helmet is a good idea at this low flow as well.
The workers still have an incredible amount of construction work to finish at the Waterworks Park including the river bank areas at the new wave. The sidewalk side had a good portion of the collapsed wall bouldered out but more work is needed right there at the wave. The other side at the wave is still a construction road up to and back from the cofferdamed area.
Scout: 496cfs+/- Scout Wave is holding at a not too shabby surfable flow and the word from the wave this morning it is steep and fun at 500cfs, but it is lowflow surfing. Not going to see much of a crowd at Scout with the unpredictability of post VFMP flows.
River Surfing Tip(s): Use a brain bucket (helmet) at low flow for waves like Scout and P-town’s new wave. Normally the need for a helmet is from fin/board hits to the head, typically in the secondary wave or wave train. When waves with a cement kicker in front of the wave have lower flow, that kicker becomes easily hit when falling. Backward falls are especially common at lower flows and puts the head at serious risk of hitting the concrete kicker in front of the wave.
Surf Safaris: OG waterman and one of the friendliest river surfers, Alex Mauer and his partner, Brittany, are day-tripping it this coming Sunday 8/25 to Good Surf standing wave pool in Dallas, TX. Flying out first flight on Frontier, 20 minute drive to the wave pool, surf all day, and then back to the airport for the last flight home. If you got the ability to score similar cheap flights, go surf w/ Alex and Brittany at Good Surf this Sunday!!
Here is a Alex’s review vid of Good Surf City Wave in Dallas- https://youtu.be/wnLH4jgRVs4?si=JNbdMxWQJLAU0JIF
Be safe even at low flows.
