The main reservoir release gate will remain at 140 cfs, and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
RRP: 156cfs+/- Sixx has drained off today after last night’s heavy rains but will remain surfable with anything above 120cfs at the wave. Chiclets has a wave but you may need a higher volume board than your normal Sixx stick. We have a chance of late afternoon/evening storms again and then a couple of dry days.
Pueblo: 1,160 cfs+/- Word from the locals at P-town; the new wave can be surfed after 5pm, but if you show earlier, you will be turned away by the workers who are actively engaged in construction directly at the P-town new wave.
Scout: 692cfs+/- Nice wave though AHRA is posting up coms from USBR that mention VFMP flow amounts. Looking like Scout will have just two days left of good flow and then it gets turned down.
Hey FRangers (Front Range visiting surfers), please set a good traveling surf-safari surfer etiquette example and limit your rides (see the “Welcome to the Scout Wave” sign) to 1 minute or 45 seconds if crowded. Just because others are abusing the line-up with 2 minute plus rides, does NOT mean that you should also ride too long. Also, if on the short side, let more people go ahead of you on the long side to even out the rides up.

River Surfing Tip: Surfing etiquette is a learned skill be it ocean surfing or river surfing. Take the time to educate yourself. The Scout Wave has a very good explanation of what river surfing etiquette is on their sign next to the wave.
Note, alternating sides of the river is a an equitable share (short side needs to let more surfers go from the long side to even things out)….
And no… The short side does NOT get a windfall advantage and if does try to take an unfair advantage, the short side surfers should be told to let the long side go more times; and if ignored, dealt w/ and summarily snaked by surfers on the long side with impunity.
Oh and newbies w/ breakthrough rides or people having a bad day blowing drop-ins, please feel free to surf as long as you want when you do get it!
Lastly, respect locals getting a “quick surf” in (for example; before work, at lunch, after work, etc.) they deserve a bit more time on their rides at their local wave, w/in reason that is.
Surfing norms are not “rules”, but it is “respect”, that in ocean surfing is strictly enforced. River surfing norms are also not rules but should be self-regulated in a chill manner….
See what I did there????
Peace.
