Chatty 60cfs (New Wave Surveillance Cam; Florence Wave; Helmet Option Review Updated)

The main reservoir release gate will be increased from 38 to 60 cfs and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

RRP: 85cfs+/- (predicted) Chiclets will probably be surfable later in the day. Sixx and Benni’s will be flat.

Not seeing any daytime gutter bump surf today as rains don’t come in until late in the day or evening.

Though keep an close eye on the Union gauge and Sixx pole cam for possibly some short lived gutter bump dawn patrol surf tomorrow morning.

Scout: 843cfs+/- VFMP flow clock is winding down while Scout is looking steep, fast, and fun. Go surf it before the flow dies back after August 15th.

Pueblo: 740cfs+/- Pueblo new wave should be fun all day and was surfed Monday during the workday… despite an inexpensive security cam haphazardly connected with 300 yards of sketch multiple extensions chords along the public bike path and next to river water that was strung up in a tree with the cam pointed at the wave.

Hope whoever has been watching the new wave for the past like 5 days on that surveillance camera is realizing that on the legally open river, just how well that wave is being shared with tubers, swimmers (most w/ pfd’s), boaters, and surfers while staying away from any construction. If it is instead a personal WiFi surveillance cam for some person checking when to go surfing, thanks for proving the point that cams are needed on river waves to figure out when to surf.

Pueblo Water eventually needs to raise up their legit cam by like ten feet that is over by the flume drop and point it down toward the new wave similar to what every legit river wave is doing in the nation with publicly viewable cams.

Florence Wave: Lessons From of a Lost Wave…

Florence Wave 2018

Transparency of river surfing spots is needed or waves die off. Case in point was the Florence wave that was a fun and promising wave that at one time we had talked at a 2018 Florence city council meeting about the city embracing the wave with surf events and up keeping that wave. But then the following surf seasons localism vibe was imposed on that wave by non-locals and quashed the Florence wave as a cool destination spot to go surf.

The Florence wave became a place that people were chastised if they merely mentioned it being surfable, eventually the wave silted out, not up kept by the city, is not surfable, basically forgotten, and honestly is a lost cause….

Don’t let “imposed localism” from non-locals happen to Pueblo’s new wave like it did to Florence. Instead, let’s pitch in to help Pueblo become an incredible destination wave that it is already quickly becoming!

Olympic’s Surfing: Amazing finals day yesterday as a Tahitian local won men’s gold at his home break and USA took gold in women’s.

River Surfing Tips: Helmets are a good idea for river surfing. We have updated last year’s review of helmets with new options. Check it out- https://denversurfreport.blog/2023/05/21/river-surf-helmets/

It takes a cool and cooperative river surfing community with positive mental attitude to keep spots surfable. Share the stoke!
