The main reservoir release gate will decrease from 90 to 40 cfs and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Saturday, August 3, 2024.
RRP: 60cfs+/- (predicted) RRP goes flat by this afternoon.
We are for the most part dry again today and tomorrow. Next week looking like seven days of possible rain sometime each day. Not sure if that means gutter bump surf at Sixx or how it will impact Chatfield water calls and releases. All the same, might want to go traveling for surf.
Pueblo: 660cfs+/- Pueblo Reservoir dam release dropped back by 100cfs this morning but with native flow in the river it might keep 660cfs at the P-town new wave and it will likely still be surfable.
In the past P-town’s new wave has been surfed down to 500cfs and is designed to be surfed down to 350cfs. Might want to bring a bigger back up board if you are going to surf Pueblo’s new wave today.
Here is the gauge we watch just down river from all the Pueblo waves including the new wave- https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/ARKMOFCO?params=DISCHRG
(By the way, if the P-town new wave was indeed “closed” there would still be a “cofferdam” in place to divert water flow around and pass the new wave rendering the new wave dry, unsurfable, and obviously part of the construction zone. No such cofferdam currently exists to block and encase the new wave.
However, do not trespass (including weekends and after 5pm) on the active upper river construction area that is cofferdamed off, or the river left construction site (including the construction traffic road), and the active construction area where they are fixing the river right embankment that got washed away.
Enter the river after the construction fence on river right and follow the eddys up to the P-town new wave and enjoy that reach of the Arkansas River River and its whitewater features just like the tubers and boaters who are legally allowed to go through and lap the P-town new wave.)

Scout: 685cfs+/- Scout Wave is surfing very good but the crowds will be heavy at times. I strongly suggest hitting it even with a crowded line up because the last day of flow will be Thursday August 15th.
Olympic’s Surfing (Finals Day): Surfline is calling for possible waves later today or Monday in Tahiti. If they try to run finals day today, the semifinals revised start is 4pm mountain time. Appears only broadcasted on NBC Peacock- https://www.peacocktv.com
Here are the four remaining surfers for men’s and women’s.
Men’s Semis-
- Alonso Correa (Peru) v Kauli Vaast (Tahiti French Polynesia surfing for France)
- Gabriel Medina (Brazil) v Jack Robinson (Australia)
Women’s Semis-
- Caroline Marks (USA-Florida) v Johanne Defay (France)
- Tatiana Weston-Webb (Brazil) v Brisa Hennessy (Costa Rica)
River Surfing Tips: Watch pro ocean surfing for style tips. Olympics for example.
I’m again torn with surfing in the Olympics as I am routing for the Peruvian, Alonso Correa to win men’s gold in surfing and the Brazilian, Tatiana Weston-Webb to win women’s gold in surfing. Though it would be so cool if Florida/USA Caroline Marks wins it and/or the local Tahitian Kauli Vasst wins it.
