The main reservoir release gate will decrease from 185 to 125 cfs and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Thursday, August 1, 2024.
RRP: 140cfs+/- (predicted) RRP with a bit of native flow in the river, will see a drop in flow to about 140cfs by later this afternoon. Sixx will still be surfable but becomes soft. Chiclets will still be fun to surf. Benni’s is possibly surfable.
Metro Denver will be hot this weekend with possible precipitation next week. Just a daily wait and see and hope to surf thing locally.
If you got the PTO (personal time off) or can remote work or got the weekend free, Salida or Pueblo make for a good surf safari destination.
Pueblo: 775cfs+/- Flow dropped off a bit at the P-town new wave but it surf’s well at around 700cfs. We are not sure how low flow it can be surfed, so keep on surfing it folks.
Scout: 525cfs+/- Scout is surfing steep and fun even at the mid-flows it is getting now during the VFMP late season days that ends Aug 15th. Vibe is real cool at the Scout Wave. Can get crowded at times but people are keeping their rides short thus moving the line along swiftly.
River Surf Tip: Be friendly with those you surf with to soak up the cool vibes at any river wave.
Heading back to Denver after spending money in Salida last three days on the local economy (hotel, food, beverage) purely because of the Scout Wave. Such a lovely town…. Oh and all I surfed Scout with was my Ben DeCamp mats that are incredible (here is his online shop https://www.bendymats.com)
