The main reservoir release gate will increase from 165 to 185 cfs and the fish hatchery will be reduced to 5 cfs today, Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
RRP: 200cfs+/- Even better day of fun steep surf at Sixx. Benni’s and Chiclets got surfable waves.
Pueblo: 920cfs+/- Update on the P-town New Wave…. Apparently there was a misunderstanding and Pueblo’s new wave was in fact being surfed yesterday during the work day.

Here is the deal; approach the new wave from the bike path side (the City Park side), walk past the construction fence at the pedestrian bridge. This is where you will enter the river to gain access to the wave. When surfing and you come off the wave on the far side (river left aka goofy foot side), stay on the very edge of the river bank rocks when going back up to the wave and do not wander up into the construction road on that far side.
Lastly, if work is being done actually on or at the new wave, don’t surf it. Currently, the work on the Waterworks Park is way up the river at the location of the old diversion dam and is well far away from the new wave. So when you are surfing the new wave you are literally not near any active construction…
Again, the river is NOT closed and the bike path is OPEN. If anyone asks, refer them to these two public announcements.
- Access to river and New Wave- https://pueblowater.org/trails-near-waterworks-park-reopened/
- River is open for recreation- https://visitpueblo.org/riveralert/#:~:text=🚨Pueblo%2C%20CO%3A%20Restrictions%20Lifted,County%20line%20have%20been%20lifted.
Reminder, be cool when surfing the new wave, so again as Ross D. says, “Just be respectful and mindful of the workers. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be surfing. I hate to loose it until the official opening.”
Scout: 530cfs+/- Scout wave is still steep and fast but can and will get crowded with long waits. Might want to consider P-town as an alternative surf spot (see Pueblo info above).
River Surfing Tip: Wax that foamie board for better grip. It is a misnomer that soft-tops don’t need wax. Foamie boards new have an oily slickness to them that is slippery. Even older foamies are slippery without wax.
To wax your foamie, lightly crosshatch your entire board (nose to tail) with a bar of wax and then lightly do a circular rub of wax on your board…. Check this how to vid- https://youtu.be/L_GRtVPABUk?si=jB_wYvJNTBqHvaTS
I’ll be matsurfing Scout wave today and might even drop in on with my Puddle Jumper.
