Chatty 165cfs (P-town New Wave access proposed, Cool River Wave Map)

The main reservoir release gate will remain at 165 cfs and the fish hatchery will remain at 10 cfs today, Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

RRP: 180cfs+/- Sixx remains steep and fun today. Benni’s and Chiclets are surfable as well.

Pueblo: 910cfs+/- P-town new wave is CLOSED to river surfing but OPEN to tubing?!?…./s. UPDATE, P-TOWN NEW WAVE IS SURFABLE!

/s…. River surfing sarcasm.

No joke that tubers and boaters are allowed to pass through and lap that reach of the river past the upper construction zone and down through the new wave in Pueblo. The river itself is NOT closed and the Pueblo Fire Dept said people cannot be kept out of the river, presumably meaning allowing surfers on the new wave.

Here is the official word on the Waterworks Park, bike path, and river:

It is the direct entry path into the river from the shore for the new wave on both sides. River left is where the active construction is happening and should be avoided by the river surfers. However river right next to the bike path is not really part of the active construction zone except for repair of a washed out sidewalk and river bank that has been completed or will be completed.

In theory you could put in upriver way above the park and float to the new wave via the flume but that is crazy and not really safe with surfboards and gear. You could also in theory enter downriver just past the construction fences and walk up in the river to the eddy lines from under the pedestrian bridge.

Reality is that when one person is surfing (as an official test person or not as an official tester) at the P-town new wave, others will quickly follow on to it to surf via whatever social informal foot path is created from the shoreline.

So to avoid any drama about surfing the P-town new wave, the river surfing community should negotiate a soft opening of the lower wave of Waterworks Park to allow access to the P-town new wave the remainder of the higher river flow season; with the caveat, that any work needed on or near the new wave temporarily halts surfing of the wave for the work needed. The contractors should then remove the red/orange fence only on the river right (the City Park) side at the new wave for proper safe access to the river and wave from the bike path. FENCE REMAINS FOR UNSTABLE BANK RIGHT ABOVE THE NEW WAVE

This is a moving story that will be updated if any changes are figured out.

Scout: 535cfs+/- THIRTY MINUTE WAIT TIMES in the line-up as people normally surfing Pueblo’s new wave are forced to instead show up at Scout…/s
