The main reservoir release gate will remain at 800 cfs, and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Saturday, June 22, 2024.
RRP: Sixx is blown out but I think I do see a longboard wave in it (meaning can possibly surf a 7′ or longer board with a classic longboard shape in Sixx), so check the cam. Big Benni’s is at excellent range. Chiclets is likely a whitewater kayak hole.

Trestles Wave (downtown Denver): Trestles Wave is seeing almost a thousand cfs today and was the same flow yesterday when we surfed it. Kind of like a mini-Benni’s right now (becomes more like Big-Benni’s when the cfs goes even higher to 1,500+cfs). Spot is secluded next to train tracks but easily accessed, but don’t go alone. The rocks are a bit sharp on the edges in the water and the currents behind the wave is strangely aerated and you sink low when swimming out back. Kind of novelty wave but real cool to claim and you can make fun turns on it, so maybe it is not a “novelty wave”. To surf it you shimmy out as far as you can next to the wave about knee/thigh deep on surfers left (river right) and jump on prone for a pop-op on to your board or prone surfed on a bodyboard or surfmat. Leashes are frowned upon here.

16th Wave (downtown Denver): Yesterday after surfing Trestles, Mr Mike and Kenny B. skateboarded up (it was Go Skateboard Day) to 16th Street Wave and found a strange looking “V” shaped wave with an almost surfable front wave. The eddy service at over 900cfs was very narrow and the wave is hard to surf with minimal option to make dynamic turns of any sort. Another novelty wave at this flow. Should be the same today and surfs best with mid-sized and longboards w/out any leashes.
The info of 16th wave can be found here- http://endlesswaves.net/waves/trestle-wave/

Scout (Salida): High flow surf is being figured out by the Colorado surf community. If you are a newbie or don’t have experience in big flows, you are going to want to skip Scout until the flow drops more. Need a leash so I am skipping the wave because…. ah, you know my thoughts against any river surf leash for safety reasons.

Pueblo: Anybody surfing anything there?!?!?…. For years we have been saying Pueblo could be an incredible river surfing destination spot with the addition and embracement of more green faced wave(s) to extend the flow/months of river surfing season down there…. Hopefully that is being embraced!

Well, I have damaged both my surfmats and hope to repair one to airbag surf Benni’s or wherever later today.
Go find some surf but be cautious and scope the wave and also down river before jumping in.
