Chatty Dials Back to 375cfs

The main reservoir release gate will be decreased from 425 to 375 cfs, and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

RRP: Sixx will still be in the excellent range with the dam releasing 50cfs less for a total of 375cfs but might need a tad bit of shaping, though it will likely not even need that and be a wider wave to surf.

Go get it as we do not know how long we stay in the excellent range for RRP (Sixx, Benni’s and Chiclets) over the next days and week(s).

Scout Wave: Is big and the river is fast moving but the wave is flatter. Might even be too high of flow at 2,400cfs. Basically the higher flow wave is an experienced river surfer’s wave that will need to be able to surf down to the low part of the wave for the power pocket to stay on the wave. A larger sized ocean board with big fin set ups of thrusters or quad will be likely be your go to. Don’t think your spinny small board with itty bitty fins will work there. The eddy service has changed and you can’t just walk down to the wave from the edge at this flow. Watch the cam and others before attempting. WHEN IN DOUBT DON’T GO OUT.

Pueblo: The levee whitewater park waves 3 and 4 are up. Wave 3 is a rolling wave that though you need experience to surf and a bit bigger board. Wave 4 is an expert surfer wave with local knowledge of how to get onto Wave 4…. P-town New Wave is looking similar to Scout (read the Scout report and WHEN IN DOUBT, DON’T GO OUT).

P-town New Wave 6/5/24 noon (by Mr Mike). It is hard to get a good pic of that wave from the bike path or any other vantage point. Looks big and fast but also flat, though can’t really see how much face is on the wave from the apex down into the trough. Might be able to ride a higher volume board with length on it and big fins.

Golden, G-wood, Montrose, etc: I don’t really report on these waves or other waves since they are not my game (need leashes and I’m anti leash until a legit tested/proven self-releasing is sold to the masses). Up to you to gauge those waves and deal with leash safety on them.

PS watch out for each other. We had a face hit yesterday (luckily with a soft top) at Sixx that still was a hurtful hit causing a bloody nose due to their leash snap back pull. It can be much worse than that especially with a face/head hit on the wave itself or in the secondary wave. Hardboards are especially dangerous but even foamies have fins that will cause face/head cuts needing an ER visit. Sport a helmet and cover your face when falling and coming up from underwater.

Also, if you break a borrowed board (fin break, ding, creased foamie, etc), be cool and at least beg for forgiveness and offer to get it fixed.
