Surf is up all over the place. Good chance the Chatfield flows remains 1,400cfs. If it changes I will update you.
Miracle Wave (Chatfield State Park): If Chatfield is over a thousand cfs (and it is since still pushing about 1,4000cfs out of the dam) Miracle Wave is in and one to experience or at least go watch folks surf it. Need a longboard or very large volume board. Here is the details on Miracle Wave from the Endless Waves page…. http://endlesswaves.net/waves/miracle-wave/
RRP: Sixx is blown out. Big Benni’s was surfed by Andre’s Romero and Jimmy Switzer late yesterday and they had a blast on their performance bodyboards but reported the paddles were a bit challenging. Should be same today. Be cautious if you are going to surf Benni’s at this flow and be ready for: very narrow eddy lines; dead zones (large circulating water areas behind the wave to right and left that will take some effort to swim out of back into the wave train to get out of the dead zones); and, being carried over Chiclets (go thru the center if you can or if going over the rocks, lay on your back w/ feet up so as not to get a dangerous foot entrapment…. oh if you are leashing it, pre-release before going over the rocks at Chiclets)
Trestles Wave: This Denver downtown wave will be up but again it is an expert’s wave with potential hazards behind the wave. Don’t surf Trestles Wave alone. Do scout the river there at Trestles thoroughly both from watching from the side to note how the wave is pushing water around and walking down river at least to the second train bridge to note where to paddle out well before that bridge if possible, hazards such as the bridge footings, etc. Here is the details on Trestles courtesy of Endless Waves.. http://endlesswaves.net/waves/trestle-wave/
“Pueblo’s New Wave”: I test surfed the “New Wave” yesterday. Check out my blog post on it. Technically the whitewater park for the “New Wave” is a construction zone until this fall 2024 and there are some hazards there to look out for. For example, don’t surf if the heavy equipment is in the river, also stay off the collapsed sidewalk area, etc. Read my story on Pueblo’s New Wave Revealed with a vid link of me surfing the wave— https://denversurfreport.blog/2024/05/16/pueblos-new-wave-revealed-may-16th-2024/
Go surf but be safe. If in doubt, don’t go out!
