The main reservoir release gate will be reduced from 110 to 70 cfs, and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Monday, April 22, 2024.
Unfortunately Chatfield release gets dialed back and the river surf dissipates until the next round of potential rain forecasted later in the week and weekend.
Yesterday we scored some awesome low flow surf at Sixx, especially with a rad afternoon crew. This is why I river surf…. hanging out w/ a diverse crowd of people getting waves and helping each other score waves.
Sure, I like getting good rides myself; but seeing someone get their first successful ride, or a newer river surfer out-surfing me, or traveling visiting surfers showing respect by giving the Denver river surfing scene a try, or people checking out the wave to get ready to give river surfing a learn one day, or even an OG river surfer having fun while pushing their limits; brings warmth to my surfing soul…
Thanks to all you who surfed yesterday or stopped by to check us out. Thanks to Adam for shaping up a perfect wave for the flow. And thanks to all of you who will in the future river surf and have fun doing it this season.

EARTH DAY: Today is Earth Day, a celebration that is mixed for me. Often we gather to clean up rivers, beaches, parks, etc to celebrate Earth Day but as a society we never actually tackle the causes of pollution such as the trash or worse yet the chemical pollutants running into our waters statewide in Colorado… Join me this Earth Day contemplating how we, living on this rock spinning round the sun, can demand that our elected officials, govt. officials, corporate executives, etc actually stem the flow of pollution into the environment instead of smugly asking us to just feel good picking up single use plastics and other trash in our rivers.
GEAR: Here is a possible deal. Used 5′ 8″ Lib Tech HP Puddle Jumper $250 + shipping at a Play it Again store in Santa Barbara, CA…. It is a tad bit big for most people but actually is a steal even with shipping because they are so expensive new (at $930 plus shipping). I surf a 5’10” board at low flow at Sixx and this would likely do well at Sixx for bigger riders like me. Also would be a good Scout board since the nose is pulled in a bit more than the regular Lib PJ… Anyway, take a look, buy it, try it, if ya don’t like it, could likely sell it close to what you paid for it including shipping… https://www.playitagainsports.com/product/11772-S000265278/used-lib-tech-puddle-jumper-mayhem-5ft-8in-surfboards-no-fins
