No update yet from the Chatfield water managers at almost 2pm. Maybe they are going to see DU hockey play in the championship game watch party at Magness Arena at DU’s campus 4pm. If I get any updates on flow will do a quick report. Meanwhile read up on the KAYAK’s WAVE AT RRP!!!
Last night we surfed four (4) RRP waves at 100cfs +/- on our surfmats. Yes four waves at RRP: Chiclets, Benny’s, Kayak’s, & Sixx
“Kayak’s”, you ask?? Yep the wave that is popular with the play-boat kayaker crowd at RRP. The wave you walk by (headed to Sixx when the flow is up) watching a hardcore group kayakers ripping up a small clean wave that the cement blocks were adjusted for them the season before last. It is a secret spot right under our noses that can also surfed prone on a surfmat or bodyboard down to 50cfs or so.
To find Kayak’s either count four drops up the river starting with Chiclets as “drop 1”; or count 3 drops down starting with Sixx as “drop 1”. Confusing and depends if you read from right to left or looking from westside parking or from eastside parking or following the flow up stream or entering RRP from upriver…. Makes my head hurt….
Anyway “Kayak’s” just might be fun spot if you grab a cheap bodyboard on Craigslist or drop some big bucks on quality bodyboard or a handmade surfmat that both run well over 3 Benjamin’s…. It will be a good river wave for the groms (youngsters) or for those brand new to river surfing or folks that just want to have fun. NO LEASH IT…
Go get some surf at Kayak’s. Oh and Chiclets can be surfed with huge volume board. Beavers is surfable and a surf session will be happening at 16th bridge wave downtown Denver Sunday at noon.
Surf is what you make of it! Don’t let the jerks tell you that you can’t have fun. Shine them jerks, have fun!!!
