No change at Chatfield today. The main reservoir release gate will remain at 90 cfs, and the fish hatchery will remain at 5 cfs today, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
Chatty flow is just at that level right now that misses Sixx being surfable unless some more water makes it into the river tributaries and down into the S. Platte today. Yesterday, Sixx was just at that threshold of Sixx being surfable and some local surfers were giving it a shot. There was some snow in the mountains last night; so if you are jonesing for some surf, glance at the RRP gauge (not the Chatty gauge) every now and then for any indicators of moving upward to 125cfs and also look at the cam….. The RRP gauge often does not update timely so check out the Sixx Cam Surfable Indicators below... Beavers, 16th and Dave’s are surfable today.
RRP/Sixx closest gauge needs closer to 125cfs to give it a surf try: https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/Stations/PLAUNICO?params=DISCHRG
RRP Cam updates w/ a still pic every 15 minutes until 7pm: https://www.senserasystems.com/public/embed/3M7824646H83
Sixx Cam surfable indicators when RRP gauge is not up to date time-wise:

- Steep Wave w/ Secondary Wave– Sixx Wave looks almost surfable on the cam and there is a secondary wave behind it. This means Sixx is shaped steep enough for the flow and yes it can be surfed at 120cfs +/- depending upon your skills and possibly your board.
- Triangle Covered– Triangle far side of the wave on the wall (at the last rock step before going upward) needs to be covered completely with water. Kind of hard to see on the cam but next time at Sixx give it a look to familiarize yourself. If the triangle is not covered, yours truly has a problem staying on the wave.
- Back Pool White Line Rock– Back pool starts to fill in and the water level covers the rocks on the right just above the wave. You are looking for water to touch the bottom of what appears to be a white line on one on the nearside. If the water is touching the line, typically the triangles are covered and if shaped right, Wave Sixx is surfable.
- Fish Ladder– Water starting to flow into the fish ladder on river left means Sixx is surfable. On the cam it will look like some sort of water is touching it (right now has branches in it). If water appears to be actually flowing into the fish ladder from upriver, you are almost certain the wave can be surfed if shaped right.
Remember river surfing is for fun, be cool and keep it that way!
