Surf Forecast for August 15th-18th, 2023 (Scout, Pocket Wave 2.0, & Cañon City Wave Updates)

Chatty will remain at 100cfs today Tuesday for some local surf but just missing Sixx…. Monsoons are south of us today but might move up into Denver area Wed to Friday…

Crossing our fingers. Last year we got a late release of water; so we hope, the farmers are creatures of habit and will be asking for their annual ditch water needs. Keep an eye on the gauges rest of the week and the Sixx Cam. We will update you with flows when we get the official notice rest of the week on separate posts starting Wed.

Beaver was surfed at dawn patrol today (Tuesday) by Mike, Kenny, and Aaron. Report by Mike was: “Fun session at Beaver wave this morning. The path is open but they put up a fence right in front of the wave…. Best boards were Scott Burke 5’2 fish and Toquito. Wave was a bit anemic but width was pretty good. Could surf into surfer’s left pocket”…. (To get to the Beavers you will need to slosh/walk up knee high in the river from the entry point at the end of the iron rail fence just as you walk from under the road

Chiclets might be surfable and Dave’s is always surfable in the late afternoon.

The Cañon City Wave pole live cam has finally been positioned to actually see the wave in action. The wave currently is more of a hole (see photo up top) but Mark DeNittas is down that way today and plans to give it a go. RIVER SURFING NEWS: Scout seems to be holding at 700cfs and nobody (including the AHRA WaterFlow Announcement statements) can give us a straight answer on projected net flow rates at Salida. Rumor is, Scout will be at similar flow through Labor Day and possibly a week after that…. Also a reminder, DPW now has signs up that CGA pfd’s are required to surf Scout. Read about it via this link: https://denversurfreport.blog/2023/08/13/pfd-controversy-at-scout-wave-beyond/

Pocket Wave 2.0 public update meeting is Thursday 8/17 7pm at the BV Community Center. If you can’t physically make the meeting, here is the live stream link: meet.google.com/ikn-wvno-phk Or by phone Numbers (‪US‬)‪+1 715-952-4191‬ PIN: ‪856 775 270#‬….. CPW staff should be there so make you pfd concerns known for Scout and Pocket Wave 2.0!

RIVER SURFING TIP: Put some rubbing alcohol in the ears after river surfing to try to prevent ear infections. If you do come down with an ear infection that seems to be getting bad, go hit the clinic for an evaluation.

SURF TRIVIA: What does “He’e Pu’e Wai” translate to mean?

PRIOR SURF TRIVIA ANSWER:Surfer Magazine” was the most influential print surfing publication ever and ran in print form from 1960 to 2020. A web version exists (https://www.surfer.com) but it is a mere shell of what the print version was.
