Surf Forecast for Week 7/31/2023-8/4/2023

Monsoons might bring metro-Denver some surf.

This week is forecasted with days of some sun, then clouds; and severe afternoon thunderstorms that possibly can bring flooding downpours.

Keep an eye on the weather alerts and the gauges along with the Sixx pole cam.

Chatfield Reservoir is rather full and water calls are still possible. Will send out the Chatfield releases each day as soon as we get the official word.

16th Street Wave was surfed this weekend.

Scout Wave in Salida is seeing its last two weeks of VFMP flow that ends August 15th. The flow after that is rumored to stay good to Labor Day but that is unconfirmed….

PLACES TO SURF: Beavers. 16th Street. Dave’s Wave. Scout Wave. Montrose. Maybe Bingo Wave.

RIVER SURFING TIP: Take your board with you if you are making a rescue attempt of a swimmer in distress (two days of saves were made at Scout of people this weekend: Sat, a young child w/pfd; Sun, an older larger man w/out a pfd). People in distress will grab on to you. So use your board as a life saver between you and the person in distress to keep them from grabbing you and dragging you under. Then give them calming words of direction and when needed strong commands (“feet up”, etc) as you look for an eddy out and hopefully others to come help.

*A better life saving tool is a throw rope but you have to be in position down river.

SURF TRIVIA: Name the most popular YouTuber surfer who’s followers he calls “Nub Nation”?

PRIOR SURF TRIVIA ANSWER: Jamie O’Brien “JOB” who visited and surfed Scout Wave this past Friday lives next to the Banzai Pipeline (“Pipe”) in Hawaii.
