Changed the layout of the report a bit…. Not much on the horizon this week for local surf in metro-Denver. Still looking like dry hot 5 days ahead. Chatfield Reservoir is full but the calls for water by agriculture and municipalities seem to be scant….
Not saying the RRP river surfing season is over just yet since the monsoon season is still a possibility that might cause emergency releases of Chatty water and/or gutter bump surf like we had briefly last week.
Monsoons typical last through August into September but are currently missing Denver, though that could change. We did see mean storm clouds late yesterday afternoon around town but it was brief and did not produce any significant runoff to impact the local surf spots.
Will send out the Chatfield releases each day as soon as we get the official word. Hopefully there will be some calls for water by the usual suspects.
If you are willing to give it a go: Beavers, 16th Street, and Dave’s Wave are still surfable with bigger boards. Mr Mike surfed 16th Street Sunday on one of his foamies.

“Denver Surfers” scored Scout Wave Sunday. Pop-up and ocean surf style master, Shane Lamb described Scout as “a big RRP”-(meaning a big version of Sixx at RRP). Metro-Denver surfers plan to be surfing Scout this week into next weekend…. The Scout Wave live cam was not working well on Sunday (pointed at trees) but has returned to a pan/tilt/zoom cam that every 5-10 minutes briefly focuses in on Scout. Hopefully the cam will be pointed again just on Scout to see people we know surfing Scout live (technically, it does have a 15-30 second delay).
PLACES TO SURF: Beavers. 16th Street. Dave’s Wave. Scout Wave. Montrose.
RIVER SURFING TIP: Work on different entries onto the wave. We all get stuck using our favorite drops be it frontside suitcase or sit down or “Salida tail drop” or pop ups or backside drops. If the line-up is empty, give some other method(s) a try. You might find that when going to another surf location, your normal got to entry style is not available to you because it is a paddle in only spot or the frontside entry is too foamed out, etc.
SURF TRIVIA: Who was the first person to film surfing?
PRIOR SURF TRIVIA ANSWER: Tom Morey (8/15/1935 – 10/14/2021) invented the “boogieboard”? Surfers world-wide (including the metro-Denver river surfing community) did paddle outs in memory and thanks to Tom Morey.
