Surf Forecast for Early Week 7/17-18/23

Hidden Scout Wave Cam Revealed!!! Keep reading to find out.

Rafal Gdowski caught surfing it up on the Scout Wave on the hidden live streaming cam, now revealed

Combined surf report for Monday/Tuesday. Extremely hot and dry in metro-Denver before possible afternoon rain storms on Wednesday. Predicting low flow next couple of days; however, the farmers up north are starting to make calls for water. Will keep an eye out for any possible Chatty flow increases early week and will keep you updated when Chatfield confirms the releases Monday and Tuesday.

Monsoonal precipitation looks to fill in Wed into later in the week. Pray for gutter bump surf and/or enough rain to cause emergency releases from Chatfield to bring RRP up to surfable flows again… No promises, just saying, keep your eye out for Chatty updates all next week.

Jonesing for local surf? Check Dave’ Wave… (Beavers is really too shallow to surf without tagging the rocks.)

Let’s go trippin’!!!… Scout Wave is on everyone’s radar… Psst by the way, you didn’t hear that from me on the Scout Cam… but here is the somewhat grainy live stream cam we just found about for the Scout Wave… (from this link, click on the image with the start button that is of the mountain trail, poof, it will show the live cam for Scout Wave… Actually if anybody asks, it is the Denver Surf Report blowing up the Scout “honey hole” cam link): https://www.coloradowebcam.net/camera/salida-co-spiral-dr-summit-tenderfoot-mt-ptz-webcam?q=node/595&img_folder=salidatower3&nid=279&width=1280&height=960

LINKS TO WATCH:

Dave’s Wave gauge (about 3 hours off since the closest gauge is way down river. So look at prior day’s gauge amount and adjust your mind…. i.e 3pm Friday should likely be noon Sat current conditions… Need at least 200cfs to surf Dave’s on a longboard or inflatable): https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/PLAHENCO?params=DISCHRG1

Chatfield gauge (takes 2-3 hours to impact RRP; click on raw/all values then table view for 15 min updates to flow levels): https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/PLACHACO?params=DISCHRG

RRP gauge (click on raw/all values then table view for 15 min updates to flow levels) flow below 130cfs or so means it is too low for Sixx: https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/PLAUNICO?params=DISCHRG

Scout Wave gauge (1,200cfs or lower is surfable): https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/ARKSALCO?params=DISCHRG

Scout Live Web Cam: (click on the start for the mountain trail and will give you streaming Scout Wave): https://www.coloradowebcam.net/camera/salida-co-spiral-dr-summit-tenderfoot-mt-ptz-webcam?q=node/595&img_folder=salidatower3&nid=279&width=1280&height=960

PLACES TO SURF:

Dave’s Wave. Scout Wave. Montrose.

RIVER SURFING TIP: When river surfing, look the way your are going when surfing down the line (right or left) by turning your head and actively looking in that direction. This will do two things: 1) Open your shoulders for the backside turn to make for more powerful full body backside turns; 2) Allows you to see the entire wave face and edges to increase your lateral surfing making for surfing the wave wider.. It is good to keep your head up and look up river for that split moment your board is faced straight up river, but start looking where you are surfing and your river surfing will become more dynamic!

SURF TRIVIA: What is the “knubster” fin and who is credited with making it popular?

PRIOR SURF TRIVIA ANSWER: The “King of the Surf Guitar” was and still is Dick Dale (5/4/1937-3/16/2019). Check this vid below of Dick Dale preforming “Let’s Go Trippin’“!

Nobody individually owns the rivers or the river waves we surf. Let the people surf; but, be cool about it when traveling to surf!
