Independence Day where we celebrate the birth of our nation. Surf is up on the morning and we hope it holds all day. Will update later if they change the dam release.
Sixx shape was experimented with yesterday for the lower flow yet good flow of 265+/-cfs, to come up with a steep/fast/fun face. Pole cam showed 10 surfers were out for dawn patrol. Here is the link: https://www.senserasystems.com/public/embed/3M7824646H83
Benni’s is surfable but was a bit flat and side entry is challenging but doable as a suitcase drop from the lower step by the pfd/helmet signs. Pop-up is working.
Chilclets is surfable with larger volume boards and has a green face mixed with a foam ball
Everyone congratulate Sarah Cole for getting on her first river wave yesterday evening at Sixx!
Golden is surfable but very cold water and it will be better to go to RRP especially with parking at Bingo in Golden this 4th.
Pueblo was surfed yesterday and looked sweet. Again, educate yourself on that wave, know before you go, and if in doubt, don’t go out.

RIVER SURF TIP: When next up in the line-up, be the “safety” (lifeguard) for the surfer on the wave. Keep an eye on each other. Person next up should always be watching the rider on the wave, and after they fall, briefly watch to see if the prior surfer is ok as they flush away from the wave. Also it will assure there is no board behind the wave before you drop in. Oh and those in the line-up, point to the direction of any lost board for the prior surfer as well to help them find their board to swim to.
SURF TRIVIA: What is a “cheater five”? Couple of surfers, like lead waveshaper volunteer Ocky, were doing it yesterday at Sixx.
PRIOR SURF TRIVIA ANSWER: Ron Jon surf shop in Cocoa Beach, FL, back before the internet e-commerce took over, used to be open 24 hours a day. Made for late night or early AM wax purchases and odd hour browsing of surf gear.
