Surf Forecast AM Fri 6/30/23 (Surf Triv- Paddling surf board in ocean/river)

Late storms and rain has blown out Sixx this morning but Sixx might come back in shortly as the water draining from the foothills and locally subsides. Chance of rain today is in the forecast and there is a likelihood of a Chatfiled flow increase possibly into the low 500 range. (Will update the forecast when the water manager announces Chatfield release for today).

Keep an eye on the RRP gauge for below 670cfs and pole cam to see when Sixx gets surfable again. Big Benni’s should be surfable but will variable as flows change. Chiclets will likely be a whitewater crumbly hole.

RRP gauge (select “Raw” data or “All values” then table view for 15 minute flow updates): https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/StationsLite/PLAUNICO?params=DISCHRG

Mr Mike did surf Denver Trestles yesterday morning. Click the vid below of Mike surfing Denver Trestles Thursday. Should be surfable again today but this a wave to be cautious on and not a beginners spot! 411 on Trestles: http://endlesswaves.net/waves/trestle-wave/

SURF TRIVIA: What is the best way to paddle your surfboard in the ocean and/or the river?

Can you name this surfer who left the pro tour in his prime just to free surf?

PRIOR SURF TRIVIA: When paddling out at the ocean above waist deep, you “duck dive” a shorter board or “turtle” a longboard under the bigger waves when paddling out. 1) Don’t swim and drag your board out because you will likely just wear yourself out and you have little control of the board. 2) Duck dive or turtle the breaking part of the wave if a surfer is on the wave or appears to be paddling for the wave…done instead of paddling out through the clean face of the wave that interferes with the surfer(s) actively surfing or dropping in on the face of a wave. 3) Be aware of people paddling out behind you and never ditch your board on someone behind you as the board will possibly hit them. It is better for you to take the wave on your head than hurt an unsuspecting surfer behind you. See vids below of how to duck dive and turtle:
