“Bridge Wave”- Longmont, CO

River surfing is all about having fun. Luckily there are no “Rick Kanes” in river surfing. Nobody is going to become a pro river surfer. Keep it real…. Longmont locals have invited river surfers to head north of Denver to surf with them at an albeit small but fun wave on the St. Vrain.

On Sunday June 25th 2023, a group of river surfers jumped on the chance to surf the Longmont wave known as the “Bridge Wave”. Stand-out surfer of the day was Casey Cupp, who on his first paddle in, popped right up. Casey then surfed the “Bridge Wave” the entire day like it was his home break. Local surfer Melissa showed the way by consistently surfing the wave as well. Others, like LBK, Mark, and Matty struggled to catch the Bridge Wave but did so with varying degrees of success.

Surf Spot Name:BRIDGE WAVE

Type: Asymmetrical right breaking river wave with a green rolling face.

Location: Dickens Farm Nature Area on St. Vrain Creek, Longmont, Colorado. Wave is right at the pedestrian/bike bridge behind the Best Buy in Longmont.

Flow: 500cfs – ????

Gauge: Saint Vrain Creek Below Ken Pratt Blvd At Longmont, Co (SVCLOPCO) link: https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/Stations/SVCLOPCO?params=DISCHRG

Surf Boards: Longboards at least 8 foot or high volume inflatable boards

Risks: Low risk. Appears that the wave is nice and deep. Eddy service is good. Watch out for juvies jumping off the bridge into the wave train.

Other Info: There is another wave down from the Bridge Wave called “All Day Wave” but not in the day we were there and it will surely be surfed another day. Water was cooler than normal for mid June but not fridged, 4/3 wetsuits worked just fine. There is some limited parking spots right behind Best Buy; that when you pull into the parking spots, you can see the pedestrian/bike path bridge that gives the Bridge Wave its name.
