LAST SURF TRIVIA ANSWER: “Goofy foot” is surfing with the right foot forward. In the 1950’s surfing became popular and it is thought that since there was a Disney short cartoon movie at the time that featured Goofy surfing right foot forward, that the term “goofy foot” was coined by seeing Goofy surfing right foot forward…. But wait, if you surf regular (aka “natural foot”) and you somehow surf a wave with your right foot forward, that is not “goofy foot” that is called “switch”. Confusing, but same holds for a goofy footer switch stanced to regular foot, they are riding “switch” and not regular foot. By the way for the most part, cross stepping is the proper form to change stance while surfing a wave and trying to ride switch (Avoid “sex-change-hopping” and the “parallel-ski-shuffle” and learn to cross step into switch for style points).
