Surf Forecast Fri 5/12/23- Late Surf Possible

Nathan surfing Benihanas at RRP over a thousand cfs late Thursday 5/11/23

Storm system drops 18% of annual average precipitation on Denver, per Denver Post. Flood Watch ends at noon today (Fri 5/12/23). Keep an eye on the gauges today for potential surf later in the day with lower flows.

Benni’s was surfed yesterday by two brave locals, Nathan and Cody, as the angry S Platte was well over a thousand cfs. Look for Benni’s to come back in play as the flow drops today below a thousand cfs.

Cody was getting after it also at over 1,000 cfs w/out a leash!

Sixx was blown out by noon yesterday but was buttery fun before that. Look for the Sixx Wave to pop back up possibly in the afternoon today (Friday) when cfs drops below 500cfs. How long Sixx stays surfable will be a factor of how fast the water recedes…. Keep an eye on the pole cam by clicking here: https://www.senserasystems.com/public/embed/3M7824646H83

Trestles Wave downtown might be up early today but that wave is gnarly and the seam on the left after coming off the waves can be tricky since it is aerated causing the surfer to be less buoyant when even with a pfd on and will drop you below water level for a bit of a scare. Surf Trestles with a backup plan and scout down river for the eddy/exit spots (takeouts), strainers, etc. before trying to surf. Bring a kayak friend to assist or a friend with swift water knowledge/training and a throw bag. Place is no joke.

Everything is basically blown out right now early Friday 5/12/23 until water flows drop later in the day.

The Surfsquatch was headed out to surf but was rumored to be waiting for the S Platte to hit 1,800 cfs after dark Thursday evening 5/11/23. Probably scored some big river surf!!!
